Terms of Service
Last updated September 19, 2026
These terms cover your use of Compliance Layer (“the Service”), operated by Compliance Layer (“we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms.
What the Service is
Compliance Layer helps property management companies track permit and license renewal deadlines for their properties across cities. It is a tracking and organization tool, not a legal or compliance authority — see the Disclaimer for what that means in practice.
Your account
- You're responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter (property details, permit numbers, renewal dates) and for keeping your sign-in access to your own inbox secure.
- One organization per account — if you need to join a different organization, an admin there has to invite you.
- You're responsible for your team members' use of the Service under your organization.
Subscriptions and billing
- Plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe. Prices and unit ranges are shown on the billing page before you subscribe.
- You can cancel or change plans at any time from the billing portal. Canceling stops future renewal charges; it does not refund the current billing period.
- A free trial is available before you add payment details; once it ends, continued access requires an active plan.
Acceptable use
Don't use the Service to store data you don't have the right to store, attempt to access another organization's data, or interfere with the Service's normal operation.
Termination
You can stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate these terms or that go unpaid past a reasonable grace period.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is.” We work to keep it reliable, but we don't guarantee it will be error-free or uninterrupted. To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect damages (like lost profits or a missed renewal) arising from your use of the Service — see the Disclaimer specifically on permit/compliance data.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Service changes. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date; continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
